LEARNING OBJECTVIE: Use Sine, Cosine and Tangent to solve right-angled triangle problems
SUCCESS CRITERIA: You will be able to solve trigonometry problems using sin, cos, tan, sin-1, cos-1, and tan-1
Engagement Activity: SOH CAH TOA
LESSON: IF you still feel unsure of how to use the trig ratios continue working through Exercise 12h for SINE, 12I for Cosine and 12j for tangent. DONT FORGET to check your answers as you compelte questions.
YOU MUST NOT JUST WRITE DOWN ANSWERS -YOU MUST SHOW SOME WORKING OUT
Use this guidance if unsure
- Draw a sketch of the question (or copy the drawing given)
- Label the sides you have been given and the side you are looking for (Adj, Opp or Hyp)
- Decide which of the three ratios you need SOH CAH or TOA, rearrange it to put what you are looking for as the subject of the equation
- Substitute values and then use calculator to work out answer
- Write down full answer then an answer to a suitable degree of accuracy
If you are confident Skip to exercise 12K on page 291 which are all mixed up. Use above guidelines to get started.
EXTENSION: Ex 12L – Solving problems using trigonometry.
